STATIM Autoclave Sterilizer FAQ

Here are the most common troubleshooting questions for STATIM 2000's and 5000's. Feel free to respond with more questions of your own, or with any advice you may have for other dental professionals.

Q: Is it okay to use regular tap water in a STATIM?

A: No. Regular tap water will damage a STATIM. Only use distilled water.

Q: Does it matter which way the cassette is inserted?

A: Yes. One of the most common mistakes users make when operating a STATIM is to insert the cassette upside down. Never do this. When inserting the cassette, always double check to make certain the cassette is being inserted right-side-up.

Q: How often should I clean the cassette?

A: Clean the cassette once a week with mild, chlorine-free dishwashing soap.

Q: How often should I lubricate the cassette seal?

A: Lubricate the rubber cassette seal once or twice a week with a mild liquid soap—not antibacterial soap.

Q: What is the correct position for the bubble level indicator?

A: The level indicator should be at the 3:00 or 4: 00 position before operating the STATIM.

Q: I found water under my STATIM after a cycle. What does that mean?

A: Water under the STATIM indicates a possible steam leak.

Remove the cassette and check the thermocouple, two ports on the left side of the back wall of the cassette opening. If the port with a small tube sticking out of it is damaged, it will need to be repaired to correct the steam leak.

Q: How often should I empty the waste bottle?

A: Empty the waste bottle once per week.

Q: How often should I change the cassette seal?

A: Change the cassette seal every 800 to 1000 cycles, or once per year.

Q: How often should I change the air compressor filter?

A: Change the air compressor filter every six months.

Q: How often should the water filter be cleaned?

A: Have the water filter cleaned every two years by a qualified service technician.

Q: Does Atlas refurbish its STATIM’s in-house?

A: Yes, all of our STATIM’s that we advertise as refurbished are worked on by our own dental technicians. Our chief technician has been working on autoclaves for over 25 years. We have several refurbished STATIM 2000’s and 5000’s on our sterilizers page.
